Arvutimaailm on Eesti vanim tehnoloogiaajakiri, mis ilmub 1993. aastast. Tänapäeval on Arvutimaailma eesmärk lisaks uute tehnoloogiate tutvustamisele ka Eesti IT-äri laiem kajastamine.

Viimase Emori uuringu andmeil on Arvutimaailmal 27 000 lugejat, valdavalt vanuses 15–39 aastat. Samuti näitab statistika, et ajakirjal on 6000 naislugejat. Enam kui pooled lugejatest tituleerib uuring “valgekraedeks”, ⅔ on püsilugejad. Arvutimaailm on tellitud umbes tuhandesse ettevõttesse. Geograafiliselt jaotub lugejaskond üle Eesti suhteliselt ühtlaselt, jäädes keskmisest madalamaks Virumaal ning olles pisut üle keskmise Tartus ja Lõuna-Eestis (jutt ajakirja enda keskmisest).

in case you didn’t know Firefox has a small memory leakage problems that can cause your pc to freeze up. basically what happens is when you minimize Firefox it stops consuming memory, however when you maximize it again the memory usage will increase, sometimes even doubling. fortunately, there is a small fix that you can implement.
heres what you do:

1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.
tada, Firefox will stop eating your memory.

How to improove Windows XP performance

First, what is the kernel? Well kernel is a piece of code that is considered the "heart" of the operating systems. It's responsible for managing system resources and the basic communication between hardware and software. It translates any functions between the applications and the CPU, main memory and other devices.

Accessing the kernel from the hard disk is usually the default on any operating system. You can set it to automatically load in the system's RAM at the boot and get better performances.



First open the Regedit tool (Start Menu - Run - regedit.exe). By using the icons in the left panel, navigate to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management (by clicking the + sign near each and expanding it).
In the right panel you can see the values assigned. Double click the DisablePagingExecutive to edit that field and change it to 1. Be sure to make the change in decimal.

This will make all drivers and kernel to run from system's memory.

You can also edit LargeSystemCache value and change it to 1 in decimal. This will improve kernel access time.

Then you can edit IOPageLockLimit field. Change it according to these rules:

- 4000 if you have 128 RAM or less
- 10000 if you have 256 RAM installed
- 40000 for more

This will change the number of bytes for input-output operations and will increase system performance.

2) Boot

To improve boot times edit the following value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\SessionManager\MemoryManagement\PrefetchParamete rs with Regedit like in 1).

Change this value from 3 to 5 in decimal. This will improove boot time with 5 to 20 seconds depending on your system's speed.

3) Shutdown

There are some tweaks that help your computer to shutdown faster.

a) automatically end any task running (Caution: this will disable any confirmations like "Do you want to save document X before closing?")

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop using Regedit and edit the AutoEndTask key. Set it to 1 in decimal.

make the open applications close faster at shutdown

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop and set the WaitToKillAppTimeout and HungAppTimeout keys to 1000. Make these two changes in the HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop too.

c) make any service close faster

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l and set the WaiToKillServiceTimeout to 1000.

Easy way for XP users to resize pictures

If you have Windows XP its very easy... all you need to do is follow the instructions below. This is the quickest and easiest way I have seen to resize as there is no need to open a photo editing software. Micro$oft has a special XP addon for resizing pictures... download and install it from here:

Using the resizer
1. Find the picture on your hard drive you want to resize.

4. Click OK

You'll find that the a new smaller picture has been created in the same place as the original. Its that simple

Change Windows 98 password easely

Have you ever forgotten your windows password and never been able to retrieve those files you longed?

Well heres how to change your password without knowing the old one.

1)when the computer boots keep pressing F8 until you get to a boot screen.

2)Select boot in DOS.

3)Get yourself into the windows folder by typing "cd windows" (without the "")

4)next type "dir *.pwl". This will display the login password files.

5)after you found out the one thats yours (or ne1 elses you want to get into) type del username.pwl

6)Reboot the computer

7)When you have to login, put in the username you deleted, and enter any password you like.

8)The computer will say sumthin like "No password. Would you like to use this one? Confirm?

9)Put your password in, and have fun!

Expand the system.ini file window.
Scroll down almost to the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].
Press Enter to make one blank line, and in that line type

Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!
Click on the File menu, then choose Save.
Close SYSEDIT and reboot your computer.

Done. Speed improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.Update: The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives, however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks. In any case, it won't harm your system, so why not try it yourself and let me know what you find.

When one downloads an album from a torrents or web site, they usually get songs that look something like this:01_this_song_rocks-example_artist.mp3I assume they rename it in this format to make it a little less search-able by anti-piracy groups.If you want your song to look like this:01 This Song Rocks - Example Artist.mp3 This program (freeware, made by Denis Kozlov) is a great mass renamer which allows you to add "rules" which removes, replaces, makes uppercase, etc. all the files in a folder you choose and then rename them.

1. Add a new rule. 2. Set the rule to Replace. 3. In the Find: field, type in _ 4.In the Replace: field, you should obviously type a space. 5. Click Add Rule. The results will appear on the right side of the bottom right box. 6. If you like the results, click Rename in the upper right corner or the window.

* The "-" symbol should have spacing before and after to show a change in description (Ex. from Title of Song-Author to Title of Song - Author).
